Steam Enthusiast Tour Calendar


As we are now well into the second half of the year we still have a plethora of superb steam holidays for you to choose from and we have listed below all the remaining steam enthusiast tours for this year along with the opportunity to express your interest in booking onto our ever popular Winter Harz Steam Enthusiast tour which is the ‘mirror image’ of our Golden Harz Enthusiasts tour in October. Both tours are organised in conjunction with the Friends of the HSB and feature unusual motive power and heritage freight and passenger rolling stock over pretty well all the Harz Railway network.  Please note these tours are always booked up quickly.

August 18  2016 (6 days)    Saxon Steam plus Chemnitz 25  Anniversary Steam Festival     Fare £1095

One not to miss – Spend a full day at the Chemnitz 25th Anniversary steam festival, Step back in time to the 1950’s with a large railway yard, traditional double roundhouse of locos, footplate rides, photo parades in the day and special admission to an after dark photo shoot.  Experience a mainline steam excursion from Chemnitz. 

Steam on the Saxon Narrow gauge Pressnitztalbahn and the ‘mountain railway’ the Fichtelbergbahn.  Private Steam Charter at the rarely visited Schönhiede line and visit the standard gauge Schwarz Railway Museum with its roundhouse collection.  All based at the Mercure Hotel in Chemnitz.

A great tour featuring mainline steam from Leipzig to Meiningen.  With a numerous guest locomotives at the Meiningen Festival.  Experience the unique experience of a steam railway works and Steam on the the Saxon Narrow gauge Zittau to Oybin/Jonsdorf line.  Also an opportunity to climb aboard on the private steam photo charter 18Kms, 600mm Waldeisenbahn Muskau line Weisswasser - Bad Maskau - Kromlau and much more.

A wonderful tour based around the wonderful Froissy-Cappy-Dompierre end of season steam gala. Which will delight enthusiasts and partners alike, who appreciate the novelty of the railways and the gentle pace of the tour allowing ample opportunity to 'opt out' of the programme to spend free-time enjoying the café culture, local drink and cuisine in the idyllic seaside resort of St Valéry or a full day in Paris. In the evenings take time to visit Amiens’ beautiful cathedral and local drink and cuisine in restaurants idyllically set on the banks of the Somme.

Classic European rail travel of yeasteryear at its very best as we step back in time aboard the famous Rhiengold Express hauled by a mighty German Pacific steam locomotive along the most famous of routes on both sides of the River Rhine.  Quite simply a unique, not to be missed experience. 19 October (6 days)  Golden Harz Enthusiasts Festival  Fare £985

With countryside bathed in golden autumn hues we ride our annual photographic steam charter trains using historic locomotives, carriages and waggons plus, of course, the unique Wuppertal Schwebebahn ‘dingle-dangle’ railway. We believe this is THE BEST EVER Golden Harz tour as we cover the WHOLE of the HSB system with our special steam charter trains, plus many run-pasts for great photo opportunities of our unusual workings featuring both passenger and freight rolling stock.


23 November (7 days)    Bavarian Festive Steam       Fare £1299

A fabulous ateam tour with mail line steam from Nuremberg to Regensberg.  Beforehand a great vintaage tram charter around Nuremberg and a guided tour of the DB Museum Nuremberg.  Steam Ebemanstadt to Bahringersmuhle.  We also have a Schlemkerla smoked beer at the Brewery restaurant.  A vintage tram charter in Ausberg and a vintage tram charter in Ausberg and much more.

7 December (7 days)     Dresden Festive Steam        Fare £1199

A classic German steam festival.  Steam on the newly extended Weisseritztalbahn.  A tour of the DB museum including non-public collectionof locomotives.  Two full day mainline steam specials from Dresden.  Steam on the Zittau - Oybin/Jonsdorf line.   Visit the Dresden Alstadt Steam Depot and visit the traditional Christmas markets and festivities.

28 December (7 days)     Black Forest New Year Steam    Fare £1259

Enjoy a special New Year tour as we steam through glorious Black Forest scenery in its magical winter setting with New Years Eve in beautiful Freiburg and a steamy sojourn in Holland.  Visit Aachen with its Stunning Cathedral.  Explore the 'Millions Line'.  Enjoy the scenery of Freiburg in our privately chartered vintaged tram and much, much more.

22nd February 2017 (6 days)    Harz Winter Steam Entusiasts' Festival   Fare TBA

A great mid-winter break where we hope for crisp snow and blue sky to accentuate the locomotives storming their way around the incredible and genuinely beautiful Harz Region of Germany. The climb up to Brocken summit, a former Soviet stronghold, overlooking the Western Plain is an incredible experience and contrasts with the rural, rustic and at times idyllic Selkethal section of the system that meanders its way through the small villages and fields.


Based in the stunning and historic town of the witches – Wernigerode this is an immensely popular tour and early booking is highly recommended – particularly as we are offering no single supplement for those requiring single occupancy of a room.
