Discover Scotland's Most Scenic Train Journeys
Our acclaimed Scottish rail tours journey along the nation’s most iconic and scenic railway lines. Highlights include the dramatic landscapes of the West Highland Line, the breathtaking coastal views aboard the Kyle Line to the Isle of Skye, the rugged exploration offered by the Far North Line, and the historic route of the Borders Railway.
West Highland Line
Widely hailed as the world’s greatest rail journey, the West Highland Line is an absolute essential for any visit to the Scottish Highlands. This spectacular route promises unforgettable experiences and truly awe-inspiring scenery.
The line is internationally famous for the world-renowned Jacobite Steam Train, instantly recognisable to millions as the Hogwarts Express from the Harry Potter films.
The iconic section runs from Fort William – the largest town in the West Highlands – to the fishing port of Mallaig. Along the journey, the steam train traverses the spectacular, iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct, where you can gaze down upon the historic Loch Shiel. The train also passes the impressive Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain, and skirts the shores of Loch Morar, the deepest freshwater loch in Britain. It is, without question, one of the most stunning examples of west highland rail engineering in the world.
The Strathspey Steam Railway
The scenic Strathspey Railway route takes you through the heart of the Scottish Highlands, providing spectacular views of the majestic Cairngorm mountains.
The Kyle Line
The Kyle Line journey links Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh, a point of access to the Isle of Skye. The train route crosses the Highlands to the west coast. Passengers can discover views of stunning scenery, mountains, and multiple loch along the way. This route is known for its rich history and offers views of amazing wildlife.
