From the coastline of Cornwall through to mountain peaks of the north, lies a landscape of diversity and attraction, matched by an age of history and generations of a creative and industrious people.
Here's a double steam whammy to get the 2018 steam calendar up and running! Not one but two steam events over the same weekend, as we enjoy a day at both the West Somerset Railway and East Somerset Railway steam galas. That's not all though, as we break the steam gala action with a trip along the Dawlish sea wall to Devon to celebrate the opening weekend of the South Devon Railway and the coastal magic of the Paignton & Dartmouth Steam Railway.
There are said to be 'Seven Wonders of the Waterways' and on this tour we visit six! Our grand tour begins at the very heart of the industrial revolution at a hotel within the Ironbridge World Heritage site, then explores the masterpieces of Victorian engineering with boat trips and steam trains galore.
At the end of June the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway celebrates its 50th anniversary with a once-in-a-generation week of festivities of steam and diesel, with locos of all sizes, plus a recreation of the line's inaugural running in 1967. We thought we would celebrate with our own 'battle of the roses' tour, picking off Yorkshire and Lancashire steam and heritage railways from our base at an iconic railway hotel. With Railtrail opening the batting you are sure to come up smelling of roses!
This delightful tour features a day at the popular Severn Valley Steam Railway, the Shakespeare Express vintage steam train to Stratford upon Avon and a canal cruise - all from our base at a 4* hotel with leisure facilities.
