Our journey then continues to Copenhagen for two nights at the Imperial Hotel.

DAY 3

We make the short journey to Hedehusen to join the Hedelands Veteranbane. The HVB society has rescued and extended the line since its first 100 metre journey in 1977, now covering 5.3km, making it Denmark's longest narrow-gauge railway. After a return steam journey, we return to Copenhagen to head up the coastal line (Kystbanen) to Helsingør, where we visit royal Kronborg Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site immortalised in Shakespeare's Hamlet.

B, D

Today is free to explore Copenhagen at leisure. We will be providing hop-on, hop-off tickets which will take you around the city's main sites including Amalienborg Palace*, The Little Mermaid and the colourful Nyhavn. DAY 5

Arriving into Oslo this morning, we leave the rest of the day free to explore Norway's capital at leisure. The tour takes us around Oslo's Viking Ship Museum*, The Royal Palace* and the Nobel Peace Centre*. Our hotel for the next two nights is the Thon Hotel Opera.

B, D

DAY 6

Today, we journey by train to the lakeside town of Hamar where we board the world's oldest operating public paddle steamer, the Skibladner, which was launched in 1856. Our journey takes us south on Lake Mjøsa to Eidsvoll. From here we return by train to Oslo.

Today, we make our way from Oslo to Stockholm, by train, crossing from Norway, into west Sweden and continuing to the east. Our hotel for the next three nights is the Clarion Hotel Sign.

DAY 8

A free day in Stockholm enables you to explore arguably Sweden's most attractive city. The quaint narrow streets of the Gamla Stan (Old Town) are a perfect antidote to the bustle of the city or perhaps visit the Skansen*, the world's oldest open-air museum, giving an insight into how Swedes once lived. We will again be providing you with hop-on, hop-off tour tickets.

Today begins with a cruise on board the SS Mariefred, a coal fired steamship that first saw service on this route in 1903.
